It was term break for my husband and nearing the end of winter, so we went in search of good friends from back home who was studying in Ohio University, Athens. It seems there was a large community of Malaysian students there from both Ohio U and nearby Ohio State U in Columbus. anyways we were just looking for reasons to travel especially after being cooped up for so long !!! it was fun meeting up with old friends, catching up with the latest news and for a while it almost felt like home but we were here to discover new things !!

We really enjoyed the travelling and along the way we stopped at a couple of places.....
somewhere along the highway
New York City - the big apple!! its a real busy city and guess what, the first place we stopped for directions was the one place we didnt want to be (from movies and tv lol).... the Bronx !! but the people there were nice and showed us where we wanted to go and thats when it first struck us how grid like all the streets were in New York City ... and how simple once you got the hang of it.

The streets of New York.
So onwards we went in search of the Empire State Building which was between the 33rd and 34th street (see quite simple lol) but we had a hard hard time finding a place to park though !
Our travel buddies.

Bumped into friends who was also doing the big apple.
American Falls, Niagara, NY. when we arrived, it was dusk and i can tell you the sight was truly awesome !! the effect of receeding sunlight and being surrounded by the stormy, raging waters as it gathered before spilling over into the falls (was it terrapin point or prospect point... i cant remember for sure) left an unforgetable imprint in my mind and until now i can still recall feeling small and helpless and being at the mercy of the elements!! even the majesty of the horseshoe falls (which we later visited on another trip) did not compare with that awed feeling i had at that point in time.
The american side of Niagara.
Next - Cleveland, Ohio. we stopped for lunch i think (i have pics of us eating at the park lol) and stretched our legs at the Cleveland Aquarium. To be honest, i've seen better but it was a nice break from all that driving. we even stayed long enough to have our solat at a neighbourhood masjid - masjid e-nur.
Cleveland. On our way back, we made a stop at Washington DC, a beautiful & dignified place.. as it should be since thats where the president is. and of course we did the whole tourist thing - capitol building, white house, lincoln memorial, washington monument, national museum of american history.. the works. and when the kids ask me with a certain awe in their young voices, 'ma, you were at the white house?' i just smile, without pointing out the fact that it was only by the gates lol!!
